Build the Simple Straw Bale Structure using straw, steel and cement.
Yes, you can do it! Purchase our outline guide to show you how to construct a simple straw bale structure that can be finished as a garage, barn, outbuilding, shed, home or what-have-you.
I want to share with you my favorite method. Why? Because my SBS is more burglar proof, more fireproof and more affordable for most of us. It is also fast and even fun to build! |

Turgeon’s Straw Bale Structures Anyone can build his own home or structure with straw. It is a yearly renewable resource found worldwide. To the farmer it means an extra $20 to $30 dollars per acre for something that is usually wasted. To the rest of the population, it is an inexpensive building option.
My way is simple; it shows how to have an insect, rodent resistant structure. It also creates a very strong tornado, fire, and earthquake resistant structure. In my travels I have seen many straw homes. The owners are very happy.
At one time I dreamed about a building of this kind. My wife and I saved toward the goal of building our own.
Many banks will not lend money for these structures, because they are not familiar with the process. Hopefully that will change.
Our building is less than $50.00 per square foot completed. A more basic building can be built for about $30.00 per square foot.
This home is energy efficient and environmentally friendly. I just want to share this dream with others.
In my opinion, flax and rice straw are the best, but wheat, rye and barley can be used. Once the straw is sealed, it does not deteriorate as does wood.
